FDA Approval for Osteoarthritis

With recent statistics released by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) indicating that approximately one-third of the adult U.S. population suffers from chronic arthritis—osteoarthritis—it would seem that the disease has reached epidemic proportions. The survey noted that 33% of U. S. workers found that they were limited in their ability to work, due to arthritis. A separate CDC study also released in 2007 indicated that the costs of treating arthritis and related conditions were $128 billion in 2003, including approximately $81 billion in direct costs, such as medical expenses and $47 billion in lost wages or other indirect costs. With these alarming statistics and with conventional medicine unable to provide cure or prevention of osteoarthritis, new avenues in holistic treatment are giving arthritis sufferers hope. Among them is the use of the low level laser, which we will discuss at length in this book. Lasers—focused light—have been used for years to correct many health problems, from myopia to root canals to hemorrhoids.

We are most encouraged, as you will be, by the large variety of applications of low level lasers, and we are excited about future uses, as well. For osteoarthritis of the hand, in particular, we will present amazing evidence of the ability of low level laser therapy to alleviate pain that often cripples hands and restricts their use.
